Four year starter (three at Duke). Transferred from Duke after the 2023 season where he was third team All-ACC. Played six seasons all-together with five seasons at Duke. Solid length and frame for a versatile edge defender. Has played from a wide nine to a three technique with most of his early down reps on the edge. Aligned in a two and four point stance. Shows decent get off with quick strong hands attacking blocks. Has stack and shed ability with occasional violent push pull to disengage setting the edge. Normally strong to anchor at the point. Plays with a sense of urgency and can pursue laterally outside or on the backside across the field. Can flatten with a two way go when unblocked. Very good at playing the zone read to prevent quarterback’s getting to the perimeter. Effective against pullers by staying square to the line. As a pass rusher has some polished moves to turn the corner along with good speed to pressure . Shows hand swipes, a cross chop and a stab into, and arm over or under. Has also shown an occasional spin move as a counter. Has bend and flex to run the arc and adjusts well to quarterback’s movement in the pocket. Has a knack for getting his hand on the quarterback creating fumbles. Agility is average and change of direction can be segmented at times. Chase speed can be a step slow as a result. Can get upright at the snap at times, giving blockers a target to tie up. Could use more power in his pass rush to go with his finesse moves. Oben has traits NFL teams look for and while not an elite prospect he has rotational three down potential.
