Three-year starter. Two-time All-Big 10. Spent two seasons at Mississippi prior to transferring to Illinois in 2023 and won the starting job. Finished his career second in program history in both wins and touchdown passes. Had a knack for playing his best, late in games. His seven career game-winning drives in the final minute/overtime led the nation during his career. He plays with a consistent level of poise and calmness but maintains urgency and quick feet. While the level of talent in both his arms and legs will not rise above others, he proved he can get the job done from the pocket. Has a clean game with good ball protection and overall decision making, but falls short of projecting to a higher level than career backup. Quick to process information and recognize holes in coverage. Adept at looking off deep coverage and progressing his way to what the defense allows. Will not rush things and for the most part keeps his throws out of harm's way. Maintains his composure and accuracy on the move in all directions. Inconsistent zip on the ball. Has a lot of downfield passes that float and die early. Lacks the ability to drive it into tight spaces and a long release with forecasted throwing motions can give the secondary an edge pre-throw. The front foot has a tendency to flare out laterally, taking even more juice off the velocity. Fumble issues throughout career likely stem from small hands and a slender frame. Will need to make his mechanics across the board better to have a chance for NFL success.
