Three-year starter. Second-team All-Big 12 this past season. Aligns on the edge with his hand in the dirt and standing up. Bulked-up, muscular frame with shorter arm length. Quick reaction speed and understanding of blocking schemes puts him in the right position often. Lands hands inside at the point-of-attack to control linemen. Sinks his hips and uses his upper body strength to maintain gap responsibility in one-gap fronts. Despite shorter arms, extends with a long-arm to keep linemen off of him. With flow away, usually keeps square hips and ready to pounce. Keeps square hips and active hands when two-gapping against tight ends to maintain control while visioning the backfield. Notable burst, start-stop speed, and change-of-direction to work all across the line-of-scrimmage and find lanes to the backfield. Couple ways to win in pass rush. Turns a speed rush into a side-step with a violent rip to work around the edge. Counters with a polished snatch-and-rip move. Converts speed-to-power well to transition into a solid bull rush and collapse the pocket. Rapid feet and lateral agility make him an asset in stunts and loops. Always around the ball using his electric effort to chase runners down. Needs to develop a better anchor to prevent himself getting widened out on the edge early. Occasionally vacates the edge, especially with flow away making him vulnerable to cutbacks. Needs to increase his repertoire of moves to generate more pressure and win in one-on-one situations. Lacks the foot speed to attack the edge consistently, and lacks the bend to shorten the edge effectively.
