Two-year starter. Son of former NFL quarterback and current New Orleans Saints' offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier. Recipient of the 2026 Senior Bowl MVP Award. He patiently waited his turn for three seasons in a backup role before finishing second in the SEC in both yards and touchdowns in 2024. The 2025 season was derailed before it began, as he suffered a core/torso injury in August that he played through for most of the season before being shut down. His performance regressed across the board and was a catalyst to the underachieving season LSU had in 2025. Nonetheless, he brings a lot of intangibles to the quarterback room and there is more than enough tape dating back to 2022 where he was forced into the second half of the SEC championship game and threw for 294 yards with a couple scores. Lacks some of the top-end tools to project a high ceiling, but there is a baseline level to him that, at least, projects to a quality and beneficial backup contributor who can keep things glued together when called upon. Anticipation throws are littered all over his tape. Will throw his receivers open. Fully understands what he is seeing pre and post-snap which helps him stay on time. When he is healthy, the footwork and hips work as one. Will go through multiple reads without panic but does show urgency. Trustworthy decision maker on third and fourth down. Tough as nails with pressure bearing down. Not a good enough athlete to create with his legs. Leaves a lot of balls floating far too long. Struggles to put the ball on a rope to the outside. Small hands and lack of arm talent will create wide misses on occasion. Resorted to poor footwork and lower body mechanics far too often in 2025. Did not respond to adversity well in 2025 when he was needed the most.
2025 Stats: 194/288, 1927 yds, 67.4%, 12 TD, 5 INT, 1 rushing TD. Draft projection: 3rd/4th round
