Four year starter. The son of a coach (Fernando Carmona Sr.) he has a wealth of playing experience, having played three years at San Jose State, and starting 24 games at left tackle before transferring to Arkansas where he started 25 games. Was named a team captain this past season. As an athlete he shows light quick feet, with good lateral movement. Has a chippy game day attitude, fierce competitive nature. Quick off the ball he keeps his feet moving on contact. Gets off the ball and shows a good punch. Strong hands allow him to neutralize defenders and move them. Having played both guard and tackle will help his marketability. A lunch pail player who rolls up his sleeves and goes to work. Smooth kick slide. Base narrows down in pass protection, which is inviting to edge rushers. Pad level rises within the game and hampers his ability to settle in on the bull rush. Like with many big men, he needs to work on knee bend and his flexibility. Arm length is an issue at 32 1/8, although he has competed well against the nation's best in the SEC. Recovery speed when beat can be in question. Needs to seal off the inside gaps with men crossing his face. Pass protection will need work as he is better at attacking then setting back. Needs to clean up personal fouls. At the Combine, he was asked to take snaps after the workout. He could go into camp as a five-position player, which can't hurt. Mostly likely a day three prospect.
