Two-year starter. First-team All-Big 12 this past season. Plays a mixture of off-ball linebacker and walked up on the edge. Solid build with decent length. Quick to read the triangle and gets downhill versus down blocks rapidly. Great instincts always puts him around the football. Runs full speed into climbing linemen landing his hands inside to earn control. Holds his ground with necessary lower-half strength to prevent himself getting driven back regularly. Excellent violence when shedding blocks helps him get around linemen when engaged. Squeezes inside of pullers with notable strength. Slants inside with suddenness and accelerates briskly when inside. Explosiveness to close in on runners in the backfield in a flash. From the middle hook he walls off incoming threats with assertiveness. Buzzes quickly to zones out in the flats, and carries threats down the middle. Efficient and reliable tackler who uses form, technique, and strength to finish runners of all sizes; rarely misses. Exceptional blitzer who can consistently pressure the quarterback with burst, bend, and physicality on contact. Detaches and redirects when runners get upfield to chase them down. Light frame may make it difficult to hold up in the trenches at the next level. Shows some difficulty creating separation and can get glued to blocks. Takes overaggressive angles in pursuit allowing ball carriers to cut back on him or get out ahead. Bites hard on play-action taking him out of his zone and leaving windows behind him. Needs to develop instincts in zone coverage; too often stuck in place with difficulty locating and leveraging targets in zone. Rarely makes plays on the ball in the air.
