2026 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about BRENEN THOMPSON:
Mississippi State | Hometown: Spearman, TX | HT: 5091 | WT: 166 | 40 time: 4.26 | Hand: 0878 | Arm: 2912 | Wing: 7058
Two-year starter. Began career at Texas prior to transferring to Oklahoma for two seasons. Transferred a second time to Mississippi State in 2025 where he earned All-SEC honors and set the program's single season receiving record, which also led the conference. There are several receivers with top-end speed, and there is a special tier for guys like Thompson. The former quarterback's elite burst and acceleration show up on tape as a bonafide deep threat. He led the nation with ten catches of more than 40 yards in 2025. There is more to him than running in a straight line, however. In a league that loves speed and explosive plays, his history combined with his 2025 season is enough to warrant a swing for the fence, but his diminutive size and lack of yard-after-catch production have him against tough odds to succeed in the NFL. Immediate pressure put on corners off the line. Can reach his top speed in a blink but also decelerates at the snap of a finger. Creates and maintains separation at all levels. Can maintain his elite tempo at all angles. Comes back to the ball. Will take hits and does not shy from contact. Adjustments to poorly located passes may be his second best trait. Gets to the ball no matter what or where. Lack of size is the primary limiter, notably in traffic. Struggles to overcome contested situations. Too often allows the ball into his body. Will raise his pad level too much on comeback routes. Did not have to fight off press coverage often and that remains a question. Just one career return, albeit a 44-yard gain came of it.
2025 Stats: 57-1054, 18.5 ypr, 6 TD, 1 rushing TD. OSR:8/41. Draft projection: 4th/5th round
