2026 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about KAELON BLACK:
Indiana | Hometown: Virginia Beach, VA | HT: 5096 | WT: 208 | 40 time: 4.52 | Hand: 0878 | Arm: 2912 | Wing: 7038
One-year starter. Spent four seasons at James Madison with Head Coach Kurt Cignetti prior to following him to Indiana in 2024. Missed most of 2021 with a torn ACL and was limited to nine games in 2022. Black was a key piece to the rotational backfield in Indiana's national championship run, leading the team in rushing in each of their four postseason games. The no-nonsense runner lacks top-end physical traits, but plays the game with a relentless approach that creates production in big moments. His above-average age and limited physical ability can put a cap on what his potential is, but the never-say-die attitude and natural vision can keep him on the back end of a depth chart. Rocked-up, muscle-jammed frame that plays compact and strong. Twitchy in small spaces with an engine that never runs cold. All-out effort in his play style at all times. Has the kind of vision and anticipation to find the creases before they exist. Rapid footwork and ability to slide laterally through tight spaces. Makes himself small but maintains angry power. Puts defenders on their backs. Quick acceleration and minimal wasted time after he gets the ball. Does not have the final gear to create a lot of explosives. An older prospect with an injury history and small overall frame. Can get a little tight in space, struggles to elude tacklers. Lack of length shows up as a blocker. Was rarely used as an option in the passing game.
2025 Stats: 1040 yds, 5.6 ypc, 10 TD. Draft projection: 5th/6th round
