Two year starter. Wide build with a thick lower body and average wingspan. Used in both a four and three point stance aligned in a 3, 2, 2i, 1 and 0 techniques. Tough physical nose tackle type who is technically sound and effective playing two or one gap. Normally comes off low and quick with his take off, getting his hands into the blocker. Solid knee bend to gain leverage on blocks and locate the ball. Has a wide base and good balance to hold the point against single blocks and double teams. Eats up blockers allowing linebackers to flow. Uses a strong punch to get separation with a variety of ways to shed. Displays outstanding power and can knock a center back to stalemate the play. Effective with a powerful club move to dispatch a block and attack a gap and has also shown a rip and club into an arm over. Has had success splitting double teams. He's difficult to reach on zone blocks showing solid lateral movement along with his consistent hand usage. Hustles in pursuit and gets around the ball from tackle to tackle. He's shown skill slanting and squaring up in a gap, creating issues for blocking schemes. As a pass rusher he's more of a bull rush, collapse the pocket player than someone to get to the quarterback. He can bull rush into a club, arm over, rip or chop but has had limited success getting around a blocker. Occasionally late shooting his hands and is neutralized by a powerful blocker. In those instances, his pad level tends to rise and he can be moved out. He should find a home as a run stopper in a rotation.
