Three-year starter. Began his career at Michigan State prior to transferring to Washington and then followed Head Coach Kalen DeBoer to Alabama where he led the team in both receptions and yards for two years straight. Bernard is a thick-framed gadget-type weapon who can create from multiple alignments, notably in the short-to-intermediate areas of the route tree. He may lack some of the prototype length and speed tools, but if the usage is correct he will be a playmaker at the next level. A fierce competitor capable of winning with aggression and physicality whose best usage will be a movable chess piece and gimmick-type weapon rather than a steady, every down/every route receiver. Sturdy base with quick, sudden footwork to aid him when trying to gain yards with the ball in his hands. Will break tackles at a high rate with a combination of strength, power, vision, and agility. Finds the hidden yards and will gain every inch. The physical nature to his game is consistent and it shows up as a blocker as well. A true difference maker when getting his hands on defenders and preventing them from tackling teammates. Reliable hands-catcher who swiftly and accurately snares the ball out of the air on the move. Comes back to the passer hard and maintains strength at the catch point. Runs every route and has lined up all over the offense. Does not have enough speed to separate vertically and struggles to track the deep ball. Overly reliant on scheme and finding the right coverage to make plays down the field. Will get a little tight and high coming out of breaks. Lacks the reach to give a wide radius. Passers must be very accurate when throwing it his way.
