One-year starter. All-SEC In 2025. Simpson is on a short list of quarterback prospects who started under 16 games in college prior to departing for the NFL. After backing up eventual pros Bryce Young and Jalen Milroe, he got his shot in his fourth year. A mechanically clean pocket passer who had a tale of two halves in 2025. Following an injury to his throwing shoulder (which he did not miss any time for), his play hit a speed bump after starting the year on fire. He proved he can make every throw to all levels of the route tree with precision and under duress in addition to playing with consistent mechanics. While that level of play did not remain through the end of the season, there is enough on tape to project him as a future starter at the next level. Rapid footwork with urgent eyes and a quick release. Capable of getting the ball out in a hurry. Throws a clean ball, stemming from clean lower body timing and cohesion. Climbs the pocket with strong, double-handed ball protection while keeping his eyes downfield. Has the arm talent to layer the ball between levels of the defense to the sideline. Touch passer with outstanding deep ball trajectory. Aggressive over the middle and stays on time with anticipation throws. Not afraid of tight-window throws. Does not have a big frame to take on contact well. Durability could be a problem. Arm strength takes a significant drop when he cannot fully step into it. Had issues tracking backside coverage. Took a turn for the worse toward the back half of the season, notably in postseason action. Has been an inconsistent decision maker against pressure. Overly reliant on short passes, 74% of his throws were five yards or less. He's the son of a coach (Jason Simpson), is passionate about the game and puts in the work to improve. He earned respect by not transferring despite coaching changes and being a backup.
