Five-year starter. Transfer from Oklahoma prior to the 2023 season. All-Big 12 honorable mention in 2022. Best fit is at off-ball linebacker with some reps at edge in heavy-passing situations. Tall with long, thin arms and an underdeveloped lower half. The vocal leader of the defense who helps set up everyone around him. Fluid hips and weight transition help him change direction rapidly. Uses his long arms to create extension when engaged. Versus zone scheme he fights into the backfield with tenacious effort and toughness. Notable speed rush off the edge with considerable bend to apply pressure on the quarterback. At off-ball linebacker, he is quick to diagnose different blocking schemes and reacts accordingly. Scoots by blockers with a violent rip move to shed and stack effectively. Uses quick feet and agility to work through traffic to find the ball carrier. Uses his speed and athletic ability to cover sideline-to-sideline. In zone coverage, adjusts with the quarterback’s eyes to position himself to play the ball. Great burst out of his stance and closes on his target in a hurry. Adds value as a blitzer from depth. Provides little assistance versus gap run scheme on the edge with a poor anchor and strength deficiencies. Needs to engage with more violence to stand his ground. Inconsistencies shedding blocks. Often overruns his gap from linebacker. A work-in-progress as a pass rusher. Lacks strength to bring ball carriers to the ground consistently. Will make an impact on special teams early.
