Three-year starter. Played in every game during his college tenure. Second-team All-ACC selection in 2021 with honorable mention honors in 2023. Typically aligns as the three-tech or 4i in UNC’s defensive scheme. Compact, dense frame with a thick midsection. Quick reaction speed to the snap and makes decent ground off the ball. Shows capability to get hands underneath pads and gets quality knock back. Able to get push into the backfield on contact with physicality and low pad level to win leverage. Shows good balance and does not end up on the ground often. Best in two-gap run schemes where he can hold the point and leverage multiple gaps. When engaged, uses a quick swim move to defeat blocks. Shoots gaps with a violent rip move to work into the backfield. Solid anchor when taking on double teams with his thick frame and low center-of-gravity. Solid change-of-direction skills when redirecting. Has shown a controlling bull rush in pass rush to collapse the pocket. Lacks overall athleticism, foot quickness, and agility. When he is head-up, he needs to improve his block-shedding ability with his hands. Gets knocked out of his gap regularly when he gets chipped by a second blocker. Other than his bull rush, he does not provide a lot of value in pass rush and will need to come off the field in these situations. Does not show effort and desire in pursuit, nor does he have the foot speed to make an impact.
