2023 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about LANCE BOYKIN:
Coastal Carolina | H: 6020 W: 200 40: 4.55 A: 3238 H: 0934 W: 7818
One year starter, High Point, NC. Transferred from Old Dominion in 2021 where he played two seasons. Second team All-Sun Belt in 2022. Tall, lengthy corner who emerged as a player after battling for playing time throughout his college career. Was named a team captain in 2022. Played primarily off man and outside zone with limited hard corner reps. Smooth shuffle pedal he played with a big cushion and often used a catch technique at various depths. Can be physical with jam and can be disruptive at the top of a route. Quick to time turn and run on a vertical route. As a zone defender kept most routes underneath him and flashed a sudden plant and drive with the ball in the air. Used his height to his advantage, high pointing the ball. Was decent processing route combinations but some hesitation showed at times positioning on multiple routes. Willing in run support but a lack of functional strength shows when tackling. He too easily bounced off tackles coming downhill. His high cut frame could be a problem gathering in space and there were some alarming missed tackles. Some hip tightness can be seen as he can over run route breaks at times. Lacks consistent stop/start quickness. Despite height, lack of strength shows contesting at the catch point as he is often out-fought for balls. Boykin has length you look for and flashes skill, but is a developmental prospect at this point.
2022 Stats: 59 T, 2 TFL, 1 sack, 8 PBU, 1 FF, 2 INT. 6th/7th round.
