2023 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about DARIUS RUSH:
South Carolina | H: 6016 W: 199 40: 4.36 A: 3338 H: 0912 W: 7958
Two year starter, Kingstree, SC. Rush was a late bloomer at corner after coming to South Carolina as a wide receiver. Made the conversion after a red shirt year in 2019. Long somewhat high cut leggy corner. Uses his long arms to his advantage, recovering and playing the ball. He’s fluid in transitions with above average quickness. Has been used as a press and off man corner along with outside deep third coverage. In off coverage shows a smooth pedal changing speeds keeping his cushion. Easy turn and run with decent lateral agility flipping his hips to close voids in outside zones. As a press corner uses both reactive and jam technique to stay connected to routes. Shows a long off hand jam on outside releases and can turn and run to stay in phase. Tough to shake in a short space he flashes ability to mirror route breaks. Uses long arms to attack the catch point in recovery mode. Has ball skills for pass breakups and interceptions. In phase can locate the ball and get hands in the basket. Shows a decent plant and drive and times interception opportunities undercutting a route and getting to the ball. Willing in run support he can keep a blocker at bay but is inconsistent shedding and tackling. Will hesitate and miss at times. In press and trail technique he’s vulnerable to double moves as he appears to guess on a break instead of reacting. At times he’s very sticky and other times he’s lost on a move. Can lose leverage at the snap. Has flashed outstanding skill but is still a developmental player. Had a role on special teams and should contribute there as he develops.
