One year starter, Mesquite, TX. Was a two year starter at Louisiana before transferring to LSU. Tall corner with ideal length. Has played press and off man along with deep outside zone. In press man can be physical at the line with a two or off hand jam. Has also played a reactive or catch technique. Normally is patient on the release not to over commit to the first move and usually maintains leverage. Easy turn and run he can mirror and undercut route breaks to stay in phase. In off coverage plays with a soft cushion and quick pedal. As an outside zone defender shows solid route recognition along with reading the quarterback. Has been effective positioning on multiple routes in overlapping zones. Has a burst to break on the ball with the length to challenge the catch point. When in phase he can locate and go up and attack the ball. Flashes quick downhill ability in run support and can be physical with hands versus a stalk block. Shows wrap up tackling skill and rarely misses. Shifty receivers can give him problems both at the line and downfield. He has some hip tightness and can be vulnerable to double moves as a result. At the snap occasionally loses immediate leverage and is in recovery mode. While he can stay in phase early in a route he lacks the extra gear to consistently stay with extended speed. As a big physical player some might look at him as a safety conversion. He has value in press man but zone concepts will fit him better.
