2023 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about OCHAUN MATHIS:
Nebraska | H: 6040 W: 250 40: 4.74 A: 3514 H: 1034 W: 8338
One year starter at Nebraska and a three year starter at TCU before transferring in 2022, Manor, TX. Second team All-Big 12 in 2020 and 2021. Lengthy prospect with solid athleticism. Has played upright in two point stance as a wide nine in a three point as five technique. Shows a quick first step and flashes ability to turn quickness into power. Flashes hand usage to stack and shed. Moves well laterally to chase on the perimeter or pursue on the backside. Has range in pursuit. Normally wraps up on tackles, can make most plays in space. Has some experience dropping to the flat and covering backs releasing outside. As a pass rusher his quickness can get him around the corner on a speed rush. He flashes a variety of moves including an outside arm chop into an arm under and a sudden inside spin move against an oversetting tackle. Active hands can minimize a blocker’s contact. His motor is inconsistent and he’s too often stalemated. Inconsistent with hand usage and struggles to separate from blocks. Lacks power at the point of attack and is neutralized by a powerful tackle. Easily sealed out on any run to his inside. Doesn’t play up to his size and has struggled against the better Big 10 tackles. In limited coverage reps lacks a feel for zone concepts and doesn’t show enough agility to consistently match a back. Has been outstanding as a special team player on several units and that could be his ticket to making a team. Projects as a developmental 3-4 linebacker/situational rusher.
