2023 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about CHARLIE JONES:
Purdue | H: 5117 W: 186 40: 4.39 A: 3158 H: 0900 W: 7400
One year starter, Deerfield, IL. Spent two seasons at Buffalo, three at Iowa, and one at Purdue. In his final year, Jones went from obscurity to All-America and first team All-Big 10. He led the nation with 110 receptions after totaling just 39 from 2018-2021. This was a breakout performance of epic proportions. Jones left the anemic Iowa offense to play in a high octane, spread attack. He re-kindled the chemistry with fellow draft prospect, quarterback Aidan O’Connell, as the two played youth football and baseball together. Jones’ program single season record setting year showed the NFL what he can do if the looks are there. The routes and sure hands will be the attractive traits but there will be questions around his talent upside. His 2022 season was dynamite but the overall career production is low. He may need to permanently move inside to slot at the next level while offering return value. Plays with glue on his hands. Strong and coordinated ball skills. Plays a balanced, stable game. Slow eyes and fast hands. Rapid fire quickness out of his breaks. Can get himself open underneath and intermediate consistently. Does not have the next gear to get over the top. Measurables will fall below the desired lines across the board. Will not have the same looks in the NFL that he did in college. Did not create much after the catch. Jones deserves a back-end spot on the roster, one that can also add return value, but he will fight an uphill battle based on tool set.
