2023 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about DERICK HALL:
Auburn | H: 6025 W: 255 40: 4.55 A: 3412 H: 1000 W: 8258
Three year starter, Gulfport, MS. First-team All SEC and team captain in 2022. High upside athlete who played as an edge linebacker in the Auburn defense. Impressive length with long arms and wingspan, Hall shows good upper and lower body power. Playing from a two point stance he aligned as a five and wide nine in various fronts. Solid lateral movement and agility he can set the edge versus outside runs and chase to the perimeter. Uses his long arms to punch and separate from blocks while locating the ball. Can stack and shed with ball side leverage. Normally shows tackling skill driving through tackles. Has been used to drop to the flat and has an awareness of finding the throwing lane underneath intermediate routes. As a pass rusher he flashes a quick first step and ability to bend around the corner and close on the quarterback. Adjusts to quarterback movement. Has power to bull rush into a move and can quickly counter inside on oversetting tackles. That said he needs work in technique as he can get stalled and locked up on initial engagement. At times he stays more involved with controlling a blocker than escaping and finding the ball. Needs some development with hand usage to shed. He will miss an occasional tackle by lunging when chasing. Needs to consistently gather and bring his feet on tackles. The biggest issue is inconsistent pad level. He’s high cut so has to work hard at staying low. When he gets underneath a blocker he can escape and make plays. When he plays upright he’s easily controlled. Has the tools and upside of a quality NFL edge defender. Will need to develop consistency and technique moving forward.
