2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about JUSTIN SHAFFER:
Georgia, 6037 314 5.14. Two-year starter, Ellenwood, GA. Earned second team All-SEC honors in 2021. Shaffer is a square-built ox who best shows up in the running game. His ability to control a gap and finish off blocks after creating a new line of scrimmage was on display week after week during the season and at the Senior Bowl. He is a bully inside that can handle NFL size and power right now. His lower body issues, bend and agility, show up often in pass protection. Because of that, he will need to man a backup spot on the depth chart early on. If he develops in that area, he can be an eventual starter who will change the power presence of an offensive line. Immense power with an explosive upper body. Tremendous thickness from head to toe that rivals what is seen from a powerlifter. Consistent push off the ball in the running game. Will get his hands on and only needs to lean forward to get his man moving in the direction he wants. He couples that ability to play strong with an aggressive, nasty mindset. Loves to play the role of a bully no matter who is matched up against. Has a never-die attitude and a short memory. Bounces back well after being beat. Sneaky good athlete in space, can fit all blocking schemes and will be a menace as a lead blocker. Lower body bend and overall mobility is not natural. Must force himself to play low, will often get caught with straight knees and an acute angle from hips to head. Needs to develop more twitch in his feet as a pass blocker. Too hand-dependent and won’t adjust well when forced to redirect momentum.
OSR:29/51. Fourth/fifth round. (A-33 1/4, H-10, BP-23, 10-1.73).
