2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about TERREL BERNARD:
Baylor, 6004 224 4.70. Three-year starter, LaPorte, TX. First-team All-Big 12. Undersized with a somewhat slim build but he has been extremely productive and plays bigger than his size. Excellent read and react, he’s patient reading keys but once he sees it is quick to react. Gets downhill in a hurry and can shoot open windows to make plays in the backfield. Flashes hand usage on straight up blocks and can turn quickness into power with knee bend while striking. Slips blocks well on the move and is precise fitting inside gaps. Has range to get to the perimeter and fill an alley. Shows outstanding lateral agility and is consistent making plays in space. Explosive tackler, he rarely misses and is powerful in gathering and finishing. Solid zone defender in the short underneath zone he sees threats and the quarterback and closes quickly with the ball in the air. Mirrors backs out of the backfield and has the speed to stay with a back on a wheel route. Shows ball skills undercutting a route and getting to the catch point. Has been used successfully to cover tight ends. Not quite as good getting underneath intermediate routes as his zeal to get downhill affects his depth of drop. Vulnerable to run/pass option schemes. Size can be a limitation as he can get walled off by an athletic lineman at the second level. Can get stuck on straight up blocks and struggles to shed. May be scheme dependent as he projects as a Will playing behind a three technique. Could be a backup that plays in the nickel. Can be productive in the right scheme and should be outstanding on special teams.
