Ourlads' Profile:

2017 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about MALIK MCDOWELL: Michigan State, 6062 295 4.87. Junior entry from Farmington Hills, MI. Started 23 of a possible 36 career games. Experience at both tackle and end. First-team All-Big 10 despite missing three games with an ankle injury. A moveable chess piece up and down the defensive line of scrimmage. Will create match-up problems inside and on the edge. Somewhat of a one trick pony with his up the field take off, then is either disruptive in the backfield or falls helplessly to the ground. He flashes a slippery quality with his quick hands and feet. His lack of consistency would make the Pope swear. Partially effort and partially disregards his technique. A pick-your-spots kind of athlete. Will take himself out of a play when he stays low. Many times the offensive linemen just push him to the ground. Most of the other times he plays high and is easy to block. His style of undisciplined play can hurt a defense more than it helps. Needs more lower body strength if he is going to be an every-down player. He narrows his base regularly when rushing the quarterback. You can put together a highlight film where he looks like a first round lock talent. You can also put together a lowlight tune that shows McDowell on his back more than a windswept turtle. May project best as a five technique 3-4 end or a left 4-3 run stuffer. Freakish physical traits and abilities that can take over games for stretches but marked down by inconsistency. McDowell is a gifted athlete who, when playing hard, can dominate. His speed, quickness, and aggression off the snap is a weapon that any team could use along their line. However his motor isn’t always on and the technique issues can make him a very beatable player. High upside, low floor prospect. 2016 stats: 34 T, 7 TFL, 1.5 sacks, 5 QBH. Edge speed:left 2.15, right 2.16. OSR:23/40. Second/third round. (A-34 3/4, H-10 1/2, BP-23, 10-1.71)
