Ourlads' Profile:
2021 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about SHI SMITH: South Carolina, 5094 186 4.46. Four-year starter, Union, SC. Compiled the fourth most career receptions in school history with 171. Lacks standout physical traits when it comes to size and long speed, but he is a competitive and quick slot prospect who rarely drops the ball. Has big, strong hands and his coordination and ability to see it in has been on display over and over since he stepped on the field in 2017. It is easy to overlook Smith in a crowd, but he is a pure gamer that will find ways to produce if he gets an opportunity. For teams looking for help in the slot, he is natural in that role and will at the very least catch the ball when he can get his hands on it. Gets off the line in a hurry and puts the defensive back on his heels. Can stop his full momentum at the snap of a finger and come back to the ball. Consistently gets separation underneath and excels at getting to the ball on the move. Lateral and vertical route running alike are refined and pro-ready. Has a competitive streak paired with big, strong hands. Attacks the ball and will fight for it. Immediately turns upfield after the catch and will slip through arm tackles. Size may restrict him to slot duty at the next level. Doesn’t play big when he needs to go up and get it. Will round his routes at times, turns his head too soon. Needs to get better at hiding his intentions. Won’t burn through the top level of a secondary. 2020 stats: 57-633, 11.1 ypr, 4 TD. Fourth/fifth round. (A-31 1/4, H-9 3/4, VJ-36, SS-4.22).
