Three-year starter who played in every game as a freshman. An impact and disruptive player. Can quickly take on and shed an off-tackle block. Good athlete who gives a top effort every play. Contributes on special teams’ coverage units. Always near the ball. Sees, registers, and reacts quickly. Excellent outside speed and range. Can string out a blocker. Takes smart angles in pursuit. Hustles all out and has the speed to get in on the play. Not afraid to lay out blitzing or trying to block a punt. Can play in coverage. His 2012 stats: 88 tackles, 13 sacks, 9 tackles for loss, 8 quarterback hurries, 6 forced fumbles. Ourlads' Scouting Services

Van Noy is an effective pass rusher for the BYU defense. His high motor and relentless style of rushing the quarterback makes him a threat on every play. Van Noy has four sacks so far in his senior season and had 13 sacks his junior season. He uses his hands combined with excellent edge speed to shed blocks in order to get to the quarterback. Van Noy is instinctive and patient when reading the football. This asset can make him one of the best linebackers against the read option coming into the NFL. When chasing down the ball carrier, Van Noy takes efficient routes with his incredible speed combined with excellent lateral movement skills. Not only is Van Noy relentless in pursuit, but he can play as a pass defender too. He has seven interceptions in his collegiate career and looks smooth in coverage. Van Noy's weakness may be his size (6'3", 245), but he has added 10 lbs since his junior season. If he can add another 5-10 pounds then he'd be ideal size to be an elite NFL pass rusher. Highly decorated fourth year senior that almost came out after an impressive 2012 season. Van Noy is an edge rusher that makes a lot of plays behind the line of scrimmage (37.5 TFL 17 sacks past two years). Some project him to be a top 45 talent although I think he is a notch or two below that tier. Van Noy has outstanding quickness and movement ability. He bends well and can change direction with ease. I question his ability to play a power game, however. Too often did I see him overpowered by a lone blocker. He was be ridden out of a plays and be neutralized by guys that won’t be playing in the NFL. He doesn’t have a lot of experience dropping in to coverage and when he did, it didn’t look like a natural role for him. I think Van Noy is a limited player that needs a very specific role to succeed. I will likely have him graded in the 3rd-4th round area. Dave Syvertsen, Ourlads' Draft Analyst
DRAFT NOTES: Bednarik, Butkus, Lombardi and Lott IMPACT Award semifinalist, second team Walter Camp All-American. Made 62 tackles (16 for loss), 4 sacks and intercepted four passes and is leader of BYU defense.
