Ourlads' Profile:
2018 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about DAVID WELLS: San Diego State, 6055 256 4.80. Two-year starter from Clovis, CA. Played in 53 games for the Aztecs. A three-time all-conference academic selection as well as a two-year Mountain West honoree for his on the field play. The big, rangy classic tight end had 25 catches for 294 yards in 2016 but was relegated to a blocking role for one of the most prolific runners in the 2018 draft, Rashaad Penny. Wells is a strong blocker and is quick enough to set the edge in a run-based offense. When his number was called he was a natural hands catcher who won more than his share of 50/50 balls. Has some good run after catch ability. He has a good chance to make a roster as a third tight end, eventually moving into a rotation role. Was an East-West Shrine participant where he played through a sprained wrist he suffered in a mid-week practice. Wells will be on the tight ends’ short list for many teams because he can play attached on the end of the line, has blocking skills, and underrated hands. The rangy tight end also contributes on special teams’ coverage. 2017 stats: 9-133, 14.8 ypr, 2 TD. OSR:11/16. Fifth/ sixth round. (A-32 1/4, H-9 5/8, VJ-33, SS-4.59).
