Ourlads' Profile:
2020 Guide: What Ourlads' Scouting Services said about JOHN REID: Penn State, 5103 187 4.48. Three-year starter, Mt. Laurel, NJ. Honorable mention All-Big 10 the last two seasons. Suffered a knee injury that kept him out all of 2017. Played both corner and nickel playing outside in base packages and moving inside to nickel. Spent the highest percentage of the time in press coverage on a slot. Mirrors cuts off the line and can be effective with an off-hand jam to disrupt route. As an outside corner, played a lot of off and used a quick efficient shuffle pedal. Quick feet allowed him to maintain leverage and mirror route breaks. Solid short space agility with a quick break on the throw. Can be sticky in press and trail coverage. Shows some toughness working through a slot’s block and is fundamentally sound tackling. Solid zone defender both in the slot and outside. Reads route combinations and sees the quarterback and receiver. Can react to the catch point on short and intermediate routes. As routes are extended, will lose phase at times and occasionally round off a reaction on a deep vertical route break. Lacks a fifth gear running with speedy receivers on deep vertical routes. Has some trouble with taller receivers across the middle. Will get grabby at times reacting to a route break. Has a chance as a sub package corner in the right scheme. Shrine Bowl notes: Used lateral shuffle pedal with quick movements and fluid turn and run. At his best as a slot corner and flashed some toughness taking on and re-directing off blocks. Was in position to make tackles and had solid technique. Mirrored cuts well off the line but had some holding calls. Taller receivers gave him some trouble. 2019 stats: 37 T, 2.5 TFL, 1 sack, 8 PBU, 1 QBH, 2 INT (1 TD). OSR:3/29. Fifth/sixth round. (A-30 1/8, H-9 1/8, VJ-36.5, SS-3.97).
