Ourlads' Profile:

2018 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about JOSH JACKSON: Iowa, 6003 196 4.56. Junior entry and one-year starter from Corinth, TX. There may not be a player in the entire class that did as much as Jackson did with only 14 career starts. After playing the nickel role in 2016, he stepped into the starting lineup this past fall in replacement of Desmond King who left for the NFL. In his 13 games, he led the nation with eight interceptions and 26 passes defended. He was tested a lot and passed with flying colors. Carries the desired length for the position with a wiry frame that is fully capable of enough long speed and quick twitch movement underneath. The former wide receiver plays the ball exceptionally well. His production was no fluke, he breaks on the ball as if he were the target. Is very good at forecasting throws and reacting with fluidity. If the ball is anywhere near him, he is going to get his hands on it. In the Iowa scheme Jackson was rarely asked to jam off the line in press as he would react and open up to the initial release of the receiver. Showed patience not to give up leverage on a double move. Fluid opening his hips and turning and running off the line. Can lock a receiver up. Played a lot of bail technique and shows a quick lateral shuffle and run. Quick with his break and drive with a burst to close. Solid zone skills and normally sees the threats and the quarterback well. Does a great job reacting up to the short zones. Very good hard corner technique using a flat foot read and mirroring the cut. Does a good job on the reroute with his body. Solid overall zone technique with outstanding ball skills for the break up and interception. Mirrors cuts well in both off and press man. Maintains cushion in off-man and times turn and run to stay in phase. Can get beat over the top at times by a speed receiver. Some hitch in transition at times and can struggle with a quick double move and quick underneath receivers. There needs to be more to his game than making plays on the ball. He is a playmaker who can frustrate you as much as impress you, but in a league where making plays is a must, there is a lot to like. 2017 stats: 48 T, 18 PBU, 1 FF, 1 BK, 8 INT (2 TD). BTR:left 5.00, right 5.14. OSR:14/41. First/second round. (A-31 1/8, H-9 3/8, VJ-38, SS-4.03).
