Ourlads' Profile:
2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about KALON BARNES:
Baylor, 5114 183 4.23. Two-year starter, Silsbee, TX. State sprint champion in multiple events as a Texas high school athlete. Has blazing straight line speed and above average length. Has been used in press and off man along with outside zone. Shows a deliberate pedal and normally maintains leverage in off coverage. As a press corner flashes ability to match route breaks. Processes route combinations well and has a burst coming out of plant and drive reacting to the ball. Solid ball skills, his sudden burst gets him to a lot of plays on the ball. High points interception opportunities. Incredible recovery speed. Can cover ground when beaten and make a play on the ball. Has seemed to come out of nowhere to make a play either forward or from behind. Willing in run support he launches into tackles but at times misses or gives up yards after contact. Often dives at the ankles and thighs. When he does wrap he can get dragged for extra yards. Cushion is inconsistent and can be slow to turn and run letting receivers get by him. Footwork can be lazy and stalled. Relies too much on recovery speed and not enough on technique. Has missed some time with injuries the last two seasons. He’s a developmental prospect with elite speed and traits worth developing. Has special team potential.
2021 stats: 23 T, 5 PBU, 1 INT. OSR:3/32. Sixth/seventh round. (A-31 3/4, H-9 7/8, VJ-40, SS-4.58).
