Ourlads' Profile:
2017 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about SIDNEY JONES: Washington, 6000 186 4.47. Junior entry from Diamond Bar, CA. Three-year starter. First-team All-Pac 12 in 2016 and 2015. Looks to miss the 2017 season after tearing his left Achilles tendon (requiring surgery) during a pro day workout in March. Experienced in both zone and press man coverages. A ball hawk who plays with an edge. Good vertical speed. Recognizes routes and anticipates throws. Efficient footwork and coordination to get his hands on the ball. Rarely caught out of position. Accurate and effective jam at the point of attack. His slender body can be manhandled by big receivers. He is also handsy down the field which is a no-no in the NFL. Inconsistent technique and decision making. Tight-hipped. Leaves too much room for cornerback routes. Needs more strength and power to tackle. Tackling is below average. Had high expectations this past fall after a breakout sophomore campaign in 2015. The size, speed, and physical style led some to compare to him to former Huskie and current Chiefs’ star Marcus Peters. Jones isn’t quite on that level, but his upside can scratch that surface. He knows how to play the ball once in the air and he forecasts well. The issues with him are very correctable but they’ve been there for awhile now with little-to-no progress. Needs to clean up vital techniques to the position. If he does, he has star written all over him. If not, he will be a major liability. High risk, high reward. 2016 stats: 39 T, 2 FF, 3 INT, 6 PBU. BTR:left 4.76, right 4.94. OSR:25/ 35. Third/fourth round. (A-31 1/2, H-9 3/8, VJ-33.5, SS-4.29).
