Mother Rochelle was a Big 10 Medal of Honor winner for the Gophers in volleyball. Williams had a breakout season in 2014. Twenty three of 29 catches resulted in a TD or 1st down. Won the Kwalick-Clark Big Ten Tight End of the Year. Second team Walter Camp All- America. One of three finalists for John Mackey Award. Also named to the 1st team All-America Academic squad. Exploded on the national scene vs. Iowa where he snatched five passes including three for touchdowns. Two of the catches were highlight film variety demonstrating outstanding hands and body control. Williams has strong, soft, easy and natural hands and a large catching radius (wing span of 80 1/8”). No hold up on the line of scrimmage. Quick movement off the ball and a good burst into his cuts. Reads coverage well on the run. A determined run after catch receiver who fights for extra yards. Highly competitive. Has the strength to break tackles. Runs good routes and is particularly good at mid range and short ball control patterns but can track the ball over either shoulder down the field. He does not gather his feet to cut. He is sharp and quick in and out of his breaks to separate in man or settle in zone cavity. Releases from the line of scrimmage with quickness and strength. No holdup. Can get horizontal and vertical separation. Good feel for the underneath game. Has the speed to split cover two coverage down the field. Top level leaping ability and timing when attacking the ball. A big target who has courage and concentration on the ball in a crowd. Demonstrates good base, knee bend, and balance as an inline blocker. Can use more upper and lower body strength to dominate as an NFL blocker. Good effort and angles as a downfield blocker. Can adjust on the run and stay on his feet. In pass protection he can quick set, change direction, and redirect. Has light feet to square up a pass rusher. A chain mover in the Minnesota run-oriented offense. 2014 stats: 36-569, 15.8 ypr, 8 TD. OSR:9/13. First/second round. (A-33 1/2, H-10 3/8, BP-17, VJ-35).
