Ourlads' Profile:
2022 Guide: What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about DARIEN BUTLER:
Arizona State, 5103 221 4.80. Four-year starter, Compton, CA. Second-team All-Pac 12. Lacks NFL standards for height, weight, and arm length for his position. A solid athlete; light on his feet with decent foot quickness and can change direction well. Notable explosiveness when coming downhill, takes good strides out of his stance and will slip between blockers to make plays in the backfield. Exceptional zone coverage ability. Fluid in his drop to landmark while reading the quarterback, and shows the awareness and peripheral vision to leverage routes very well in his area. In limited reps, showed the ability to cover tight ends and running backs by tracking their hips and matching their feet. Will win in coverage by tracking the ball through the air and playing through the receiver. Lacks functional strength and physical toughness to take on blocks from offensive linemen and finish tackles consistently versus good-sized running backs. Struggles to get any penetration when engaged with offensive linemen. Needs to take better angles to the perimeter in pursuit. On many occasions, loses his feet in the open field running to the ball carrier. Has the tools to succeed in the NFL as a sub package player, but his small stature is a major concern.
