2019 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about JAHLANI TAVAI: Hawaii, 6023 250 4.80. Four year starter from Englewood, CA. Aggressive productive player with a non-stop motor. Has traditional size for an NFL linebacker and displays power attacking blocks and making tackles. Leads with his hands striking with extension to keep blockers off his frame. Plays with knee bend and is almost frantic moving his feet to get off blocks and find the football. Use of hands keeps blockers at the second level off-balance. Second effort player that can redirect off blocks and make plays on the other side of the ball. Has good range in pursuit and can work through the wash. Has blitz skill and a burst to close on scrambling quarterbacks. Zone pass drops are efficient getting in the throwing lane and following a quarterback’s eyes. Solid playing the seam versus an inside receiver. Gets to some balls and keeps underneath gains to a minimum. Normally tackling skill is sound but he does not always gather and strike. At times allows yards after contact. Second effort gets him to the ball but after significant gains. Has not been tested much in man cover but what he has shown has been positive. He projects as a three down player and a team looking for size at the position will give him a look. Should be a factor on special teams. 2018 stats: 82 T, 5.5 TFL, 2 sacks, 2 PBU, 1 QBH, 1 FF, 1 BK. Did not work out at Combine. Seventh round/ PFA. (A-31 7/8, H-9, BP-DNP, SS-DNP).
