Four-year starter. Has played both outside linebacker and a four-man front defensive end. Projects to outside linebacker for the next level. Good balance and change of direction. Long arms to lock out, play square, and shuffle laterally down the line of scrimmage. A good athlete who can dip his shoulder, penetrate and pressure the quarterback. Experience dropping into coverage and playing on or off the line of scrimmage. Will finish backside pursuit. Good effort player with a non-stop motor. Doesn’t stay blocked. Explosive first step when rushing the passer. Uses his hands on blockers like a shiver board. A disruptive playmaker. His 2012 stats: 94 tackles, 8 sacks, 13 tackles for loss. Gets better as the season goes on, doesn’t wear down. Had arguably his best game against a top 5 team in Ohio State, with 2.5 sacks, and 2.5 tackles for loss. Very consistent production, does not slump, not prone to long periods of low productivity. High motor, extremely aggressive. For career has 15 forced fumbles, 4 INT, 28.5 sacks, and 75.0 tackles for loss, shows a big play ability. Performs best against good competition. Leader, pure football guy, well respected by his peers, and coaches. Doesn’t take plays off, and is always involved. Initial burst showed in game against Ohio State as he registered at 1.9 seconds until contact to Miller. Weaknesses - Struggles to shed large blockers, can be swallowed up. Will over pursue and take bad angles. Can be pushed outside on speed rushes, and lacks top end strength to bullrush to quarterback. Lacks experience against top end talent, Senior Bowl will be very important for Mack. Needs to get stronger, develop a position, and work on transitioning in pass coverage from backpedaling to sprinting without getting tangled up and losing a step. Brad Smith, Ourlads' Draft Analyst
