Analysis:

All-Big Ten Second Team selection led team and was second in conference with 119 tackles and third in the Big Ten with 15 tackles for loss. Also had 5 sacks, 4 pass breakups and one interception.

Three-time All Big Ten selection and 2012 Butkus Award Semi-Finalist. Team’s struggles during his final two years really limited his national exposure. 3rd in Illinois history with 45.5 TFL. Versatile linebacker whose size (6’1’’, 235) and ability allow him to fit into a 3-4 or 4-3. Like him as an OLB in a 4-3 (weak or strong). Well-built, long arms. Made a smooth, successful transition to the inside in 2013. Tremendous vision and instincts. Quick recognition of run-pass situations allowing him to drop into coverage (would translate well to a Cover 2) or attack the line and meet the ball carrier in the hole. Not afraid to take on blockers at the point of attack. Relentless pursuit of ball carriers and has the ability to rush the passer. Good use of hands and sure tackler. Shoulder injury kept him out of the last 3 games of 2012. May like him more than most but I think he can start immediately at the next level as a 2nd-3rd round selection.
